I freaked out after seeing how much hair was in my brush after my shower I instantly threw the melt into moisture product away . My scalp and hair thinning never fully recovered resulting in extremely oily scalp that itches even into my current day and my hairs curl pattern has never fully came back . The products were advertised for my type of hair ! And I come to find out they knew these things were happening to their customers !? I spent about a year in distraught as my hair was always my best attribute and now it had been ripped away from me my hair was so frizzy and dry along with the hair loss and painful scalp .
I started using Deva Curl in June of 2016. I thought I had found my "forever product". By the middle of 2019, I was experiencing excessive hair loss, large amounts of frizz HOURS after I had washed it, and excessive dandruff.
I used to wash my hair every three days, by 2019 I was washing my hair every day because it was so itchy and dry. Finally saw people coming forward about their issues with Deva Curl and I realized that I should stop using the products all together. My hair now feels cleaner and healthier and I have since stopped having to wash my hair as frequently as I used to. I didn't want to believe it at first, but Deva Curl is truly not a good product for curly hair. I would like to be added to this class action lawsuit and provide as much help as I can.
I thought I was the only one experiencing this. If more people come forward, more people will be aware of what this product does. I brought up my concerns with the hair stylist and my next cut appointment a month later and I was told that it could not be due to the DEVA CURL products and my concerns were brushed away. I went to this stylist specifically to gain healthier hair and a better understanding of styling my natural hair so I listened believing that he knew what was best for my hair . I kept using the DEVA CURL products and thinking it must be something else which I could not figure out what it was.
It is really embarrassing to be as young as I am and feel self conscious of my hair because there is noticeable thinning and balding that cannot exactly be hidden. I started using deva curl products about 4 or 5 years ago. When I started using the no poo shampoo I had horrible flaking and scalp irritation.
I was told my scalp needed some time to adjust so I continued using it for about a month. I noticed hair loss a few weeks later but the scalp irritation was so bad. I stopped using the no poo and to this day my scalp hasn't been the same. I even mentioned to my hair stylist that I thought I had an allergic reaction to their products but never new this was a thing until a friend told me recently.
I used deva curl for approximately 9 months in 2019 (Feburary-October/November). Never thought it could be the deva curl because there are so many people who were saying such great things about their products. Over those 9 months I would grab handfuls of my hair from the shower drain after showering, and my curls are straighter than they have EVER been.
I am a waitress and the itching got so bad I'd be in pain at tables just ready to run to the bathroom to scratch my head. Still today 3 ish months after not using it my scalp is soooo itchy, painful itchy. I've cried to my partner multiple times idk what to do, I need some kind of relief. This makes so much since, my hair dresser will tell you 2 years ago nothing like this was a problem for me, I started using deva curl and little did I kbow that was the start to this horrendous situation. I stared to experience extreme hair loss and also my curls started to die, my hair line became thin and every time I showered I would just see tons of hair left in the shower and also in my brush. Also my scalp was extremely itchy to a point I though I might had lice.
I was very confused about it and started to care for my hair at home avoiding my hair salon and other products. In my head I never even imagined it was Diva curls. I stopped using the products immediately ever since and now I am trying to get my hair back. My daughter has always had thick sparkly curly hair.
Last year she started using Deva Curl and invested a lot of money in the products. 3 months into using this she started noticing hair loss. And I don't mean little bits of hair, I'm taking clumps of hair. When I saw this I became concerned and took her to the doctor who ran blood work which came back normal with no deficiencies or illness indication. I then took her to a dermatologist who indicated she also didn't see anything alarming with her health.
My daughter reached out to Deva Curl who claimed their products were fine and could she send the products back for testing. We kept them as we decided we will reach out for some help because if you saw the amount of hair she has lost you would think she just had chemo! It's horrific and has me her parents very ill. My daughter is so very depressed because now her hair is super thin and short. Deva Curl should be ashamed for the stress they have caused and for being so dishonest. Please, do your best to help all these women who have used this product because this is not okay and the damage is not even fixable at this point.
If you saw photos before and after you would be beside yourself. I am 23 years old and I started using DevaCurl products January 2017. I was so excited to finally use DevaCurl and I religiously used the Light Defining Gel, Supercream, and Ultra Creamy Daily Conditioner.
I gradually lost my curl pattern and I noticed significant hair loss after almost 1 year of using Deva Curl. I assumed it was due to something else so I just ignored the signs. Then, I went to my primary care physician August 2018 and they ran blood tests to make sure I didn't have a vitamin deficiency and to see if they could find the cause.
My labs were normal so I was referred to a dermatologist and I was told that it would go away in 6 months even though they didn't know the cause. My hair has not grown back at all, it has continued to get worse and I barely stopped using the products after 3 years. I thought it would be a product that would help my hair, I never thought it could be detrimental. I didn't think to do a side by side comparison with how my hair looked 3 years ago until recently and I'm honestly devastated with how my hair looks now.
I don't even like to wear my curls down anymore, too much damage has been done. I starting using Deva Curl products on July 18th 2019. My friend recommended the products so I went to a Deva Curl salon and bought every product that they recommended after they used them at my appointment. It took awhile to get the results I wanted using the products from home myself, but once I got the technique I fell in love with these products! After about 5 or 6 months (roughly December/January) I began noticing myself itching my scalp frequently on each side of my head.
It got increasingly worse in those spots and by March I called my friend who recommended Deva Curl and asked her if she had itchiness from the products because something was wrong with my scalp. She told me she stopped using the products completely because she was hearing bad stuff about hair loss and itchy scalp, etc. I contacted my Deva Curl hair salon to see what to do, but because of Covid-19 quarantine, I could only send an email. They responded and told me to do a sugar scrub. If that didn't work, they said I should contact my doctor. The sugar scrub did not work and my doctor prescribed Betaderm cream (over the phone from pictures because of Covid-19).
I need to follow-up with my doctor because the cream is not working either. I have completely stopped using Deva Curl products but it has only been about 2 weeks since I thought the problem was the shampoo so I eliminated EVERYTHING else about 2 weeks ago. I tarted to significantly see more hair loss when I used this the defining gel, I never used the other deva curl products.
I tired to return it to the store I bought it at, but they refused due to their returnable time policy. I have now stopped and wish to get a refund! I have been using DevaCurl hair products exclusively for the past 10 years. I started losing my hair in 2016, I was convinced it was stress related.
In fact, my devacurl hair stylist told me my hair was breaking and falling out, she told me it was most likely stress induced hair loss. I moved across the country in order to "de stress" and help my hair grow back. I stopped using the products in 2019 as I started a natural diet and was so paranoid about why my hair was falling out.
I am now in shock and disbelief that such a reputable company was lying to their clients. Their motto was to accept your curls and I took that to heart. Now I am 30 and my hair is a third of what it was. I am devastated, depressed and truly blind sided by this news. It is absolutely heartbreaking to lose your hair at such a young age and think that it's your fault when, in fact, it is the dishonesty of a trusted company.
My first deva cut was amazing and my curls were bouncy, springy, and shiny. I did have some dandruff when I was younger, but that went away. About a year or so ago, my scalp started to feel itchy shortly after wash days.
I was thinking "oh great, my dandruff is coming back." Well, I did some digging, and now, the more digging I've done, I am so unbelievably ticked off. I also noticed a fairly obvious bald spot on my crown. I will be following this lawsuit through to the end.
I spent so much money on all of these products, it's a shame it had to end this way. I wish I would've listened and believed sooner to the claims that were out there—now all I can hope for is my hair to grow back and for my scalp to stop being so dang itchy. I started noticing extreme hair loss in the shower and in my brush after about 2 years of using DevaCurl products. My curls changed to waves, I lost the volume I used to have at the root, and finally one of my friends asked me what products I was using.
She pointed me to countless reviews from others saying that they were experiencing the same issues – all attributed it to DevaCurl. I started using Deva Curl hair products in July 2016 at which time I thought they made my curls look great. At some point my hair started feeling very dry and my scalp was always itchy. It seemed like the formula used in Deva Curl had changed and I needed extra products for my hair routine. In July 2018 I asked my doctor what could be causing my significant hair loss.
She ran blood work and could not find any cause for the hair loss and said it must be stress. When I switched to a different line of organic hair care products in 2019 not only did my hair feel healthy with an itch free scalp my hair also went back to having just normal hair loss. I wish I would have figured out the problem sooner.
I have been using deva curl since August 2017. I didn't use it 100% of the time because I would go back and forth with curly and styled hair. But this last year my scalp was sooo itchy, I had such bad dandruff and lots of hair loss. Honestly I thought I was from pregnancy and postpartum. But once my hairdresser sent me an article about deva curl everything started to make sense. Of course my scalp got worse during postpartum because I was on maternity leave I was doing my hair with deva curl pretty much the entire time.
Once I read about the issues with deva curl in January 2020 I stop using it immediately. Since then my hair had done a complete 180. My scalp is so healthy and my hair is starting to grow back. I have been using deva curl since October of last year. I noticed I lost a lot more hair when I started using this product but discounted it thinking that my hair was just getting adjusted to the new shampoo.
I continued to use the product to notice lot more dandruff and my hair is very rough and poofy when I don't use the Deva curling gel . I recently realized it could be the shampoo and stopped using it. My hair fall is a lot lower now and my scalp has lesser dandruff. I first got my hair cut by a Devacurl stylist in September 2016 and he recommended I use the Devacurl products. I used them almost exclusively for 3 years until I no longer had the budget for their products. I started to notice hair loss during my wash day in 2017.
It began to get worse and worse and continues to this day even though I do not use Devacurl. I thought I had a health issue until I found this lawsuit. My hair has lost it's thickness and it's curl pattern.
My hair frizzes much more easily and will lose curl by the end of the day. I spent so long searching for a good curly hair routine and now I have to start all over again. Wow, I only just found out about this lawsuit today at a local hair salon. Until today, I thought hormones or stress were causing my excessive hair loss – which, recently, has been completely shocking.
